Loyar Buruk TommyThomas Kutuk Malaysia

And he attacks ethnic-based politics as having "long outlived its use", forgetting that PAS is as good as totally Malay while DAP is more Chinese than ever before.

Thomas then does Pakatan's GE13 bidding, stating that it is a "strong opposition capable of forming the next government," this time ignoring the inter- (and intra-) party divisions and self-interest that experts agree will harm its chances at the ballot box, let alone any attempt to form a coherent Government.
In fact, when he states that the "ship of the state will be in very safe and capable hands" in a Government led by "politicians of the standing and experience of Nik Aziz, Hadi Awang, Lim Kit Siang and Karpal Singh" he doesn't say who would do what job because not even they know that. Remember, some people in PAS still think Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang should be PM. It's unclear whether Thomas actually thinks he is doing Pakatan Rakyat a favour with generalised endorsements such as this.
Thomas writes about Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's time as Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in glowing terms, totally ignoring the allegations of proxies controlling bank accounts, of loans that were never intended to be repaid (RM445 million, according to blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin), and of his alleged attempts at enrolling the US Government in his bid to topple Dr M; nor of his attempt to strangle the economy through austerity.
But he displays real nerve when he talks of young Malaysians who have left this nation on the basis of the lack of opportunities it provides, given that that is exactly what he did in the 1980s when he emigrated to Canada. He returned to Malaysia to resume his lucrative legal practice, which has since bought him two Porsches and a stable of race horses.
He has done very well from a nation that he criticises for denying opportunities to its people.

And on the subject of race horses, Thomas has a history of backing the wrong horse. He threw his weight behind foreign-funded Suaram last year just weeks before it was revealed the so-called "Scorpene trial" in France that was set to bring down the Government was in fact, non-existent. There never was a trial.
And he even attacked the Sodomy II acquittal of Anwar as being evidence of a Government interfering with the criminal justice system. As The Choice pointed out, he would have said the same thing about a guilty verdict.
These latest political musings have caused furious backlash in the blogosphere because they reek of an ungrateful man attacking a nation and a system of government under which he has prospered.
The Stop The Lies blog put it bluntly with: "After reading Tommy Thomas's 'Voting for the Future' in Malaysian Insider, I am tempted to say to him: Go back to Canada."
There are even calls for his law firm to be stripped of Government business which pays him so well. His client list reads like a who's who of the Malaysian establishment: Affin Bank Berhad, Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad, Ahmad Zaki Sdn Bhd, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, Bursa Malaysia Berhad, CIMB Bank Berhad, CIMB Investment Bank Berhad, Companies Commission of Malaysia, Felcra Berhad, Securities Commission, Sime Darby Group ...
It has to be said that considering he is an experienced lawyer, Thomas argues a pretty weak case. It's not just the fact that he almost damns Pakatan Rakyat with faint praise with his lukewarm and incomplete endorsement; it is that this is a man who looks like a pretty good advertisement for the opportunities this nation provides, but who chooses to cheer those same opportunities only when it suits him.
Voters should ignore him.
